I create high end jewelry because I love the beauty of the materials: the beads, metal, glass, and polymer clay. I love the colors of the different beads and crystals, especially the Swarovski Aurora Borealis crystals and multicolor seed beeds.
The design may be challenging, but there is a zen I find relaxing in the beading and working with metal, clay, or glass. I typically make jewelry in sets: necklaces come with earrings so that the person wearing the piece need not mix and match, but have earrings and necklace to complete an outfit. Although the jewelry takes a considerable time to create, the end product gives me a “wow” feeling.
I usually look for a total balance of composition that lets me know when a piece of jewelry is complete. It’s a very subjective analysis, and often planning and creation take place together.
I want the person who owns my jewelry to feel beautiful wearing it. I try to create pieces that are very different from each other, rather than pieces that are all similar to each other except for bead color. Not only does that approach keep me interested and motivated, but I think it adds a unique, designer quality to the jewelry I make.
