My latest painting is called “Botanical Hideaway”. Back in 1990 I went on a visit to Washington D.C.; this was just before moving from Massachusetts to Bowie Maryland, only an hour drive from D.C. I spent the day at the Botanical Gardens at the Smithsonian. I especially loved the area with all the azalea bushes. I have two photos from that trip, both panoramic shots of the the azalea area. My friend happened to be sitting on a bench reading. As it happens, one of my delights is reading in a beautiful spot where I am all alone. So, in my painting, I changed the male figure to a female figure so that I can imagine it was me reading the book. I took some artistic license and added/modified some parts of the photos to make my painting have the composition I wanted.
This is one of my largest paintings: 48″ x 24″.
